A Great Place for Your Child to Grow & Learn

Our Philosophy

The Montessori method is founded on the principle of respect:

  • Respect for Self
  • Respect for Others
  • Respect for Our Environment

Our Montessori Classroom

The Montessori classroom is designed to create an environment that is calm, ordered, and realistic for the child.

The materials and furniture are all explorations. The Montessori teacher acts as a facilitator of activities within this environment, as well as a role model of respectful behavior.

Classroom Teaching & Learning

Children are active participants in their learning and are encouraged to work independently or in small groups. Children follow what interests them, and the teacher responds with developmentally appropriate and individualized lessons.

Both individual and group instruction can vary based on each student’s learning style. The Montessori teacher adapts to individual needs. Each child gets their own learning pace to internalize information gathered from classroom materials-we called “works”-of their choosing and ability level.

The teacher relies on his or her observations of the children to determine which new activities and materials he/she may introduce to an individual or group of students.

Creativity flourishes in this atmosphere of acceptance and trust. The rich curriculum, under the direction of the Montessori teacher, allows each child to experience the joy of learning. The classroom community encourages self-direction through non-competitive activities. A classroom is an open place for exploration and learning.

Mission Statement

Our goals are to instill a sense of responsibility, respect for each other, and respect for their environment.

We want to provide an environment in which children can meaningfully learn and interact with one another, to stimulate independent and creative growth through the use of appropriate materials with positive guidance and encouragement, and to teach patience and cooperation, courteous social skills, and appropriate classroom behavior.

Ms. Tami- Director, Pre-K Teacher

I am the Founder and Director of New Day Preschool as well as one of the teachers. I have worked with children in many capacities since 1994, including Lead Teacher and Director roles. My background is in Early Childhood Development, and I have been teaching preschool-aged children for over 25 years. I knew from an early age that I wanted to work with children. I have a true passion for supporting children's success, and I genuinely care for each child that comes through our school. I grew up in Newberg and have lived in Oregon all my life. I married my husband in 1999, and we have two wonderful children. I enjoy vacationing, watching movies, shopping, and, most of all, spending time with my family.

Ms. Sarah- Preschool Teacher, Spanish Teacher

In 2011, I graduated with a B.A. from Western Oregon University. My major was Early Childhood/ Elementary education, with focuses on Spanish and Math. I also obtained an ESOL (English for speakers of other languages) endorsement. That year, I began work in a preschool setting as an assistant for a Montessori-trained teacher. The 2020-2021 school year will be my 10th year as a lead preschool teacher.

In 2009, I married my high school sweetheart. We have two beautiful children.  In my free time, I enjoy reading, baking, and shopping. My passion has always been working with children. I enjoy coming to work and seeing the faces of young students eager to learn and play every day!

I love the beauty of Oregon and all it has to offer. I enjoy relaxing and hanging out with my family and love to take taekwondo classes with my children.

Ms. Jodi- Teaching Assistant

I have been working with preschool-aged children for ten years. I love working with children and supporting their development and growth. My favorite thing about teaching is seeing that smile when I have helped a child with something. I have been married to my wonderful husband since 1999. I grew up in Newberg but have lived all over the country when my husband was in the Navy. We still love to travel together and explore new places. I also enjoy shopping and spending time with my niece and nephew.

Miss Emily- Teaching Assistant

I have been helping my Mom at the preschool since I was 15 years old. I love working with kids, and I am currently enrolled at George Fox University, studying elementary education. I work at the preschool primarily during the summer and frequently on Fridays during the school year. I cannot wait to have an elementary class of my own after I graduate from college. I am also on the tennis team at George Fox and coach kid’s tennis clinics.
